David Alandete is a Spanish journalist and editor with over twenty years of experience, specializing in international politics and disinformation. His extensive career includes reporting from conflict zones such as Afghanistan and Syria, as well as serving as a White House correspondent. Recognized by prominent institutions like the european union, NATO, and the unIted states Senate, Alandete's work features interviews with world leaders and significant contributions to the field of journalism.

 

David Alandete is the White House Correspondent for Diario ABC, a leading Spanish newspaper, and a recognized expert on disinformation. He also serves as the Washington correspondent for Cope radio, one of Spain's most prominent radio networks, where he regularly reports on U.S. politics. Additionally, he serves as a White House correspondent for Telemadrid, Madrid's public TV. He has published two books on the subject of disinformation: Fake News: la nueva arma de destrucción masiva and La trama rusa.

The report Russian Interference in the Catalan Independence Crisis (2014-2022) provides a detailed analysis of Russia's involvement in destabilizing democratic institutions during the Catalan independence crisis. This comprehensive report examines disinformation campaigns, hybrid warfare tactics, and the broader geopolitical implications of Russia's actions in Europe.

Alandete served as Deputy Director at El País and Managing Editor at Adonde Media, where he led award-winning audio projects such as the Duolingo podcasts, a Webby Award winner in 2022, and Daniel Coronell's investigative podcast Uribe Acorralado, which topped charts across Latin America. He also edited Después de Ayotzinapa, an investigative podcast exploring the unresolved disappearance of 43 students in Mexico, and Retrato Narrado: El Auge de Bolsonaro, created with Jon Lee Anderson and released in both Spanish and English. More recently, Alandete served as editor for the innovative podcast and TV series 5 Preguntas, featuring María Elena Salinas, for the Latino Podcast Network.

At El País, Alandete oversaw a 40% growth in digital readership and spearheaded the launch of its English and Brazilian editions. He led groundbreaking investigations into Russian interference in European elections and remains focused on monitoring disinformation targeting Latin America and U.S. Hispanic populations. Additionally, he has interviewed world leaders and entrepreneurs and was the last journalist in Spanish to interview Bashar al-Assad before his fall, following extensive reporting trips on Syrian refugees across the Middle East.

A Fulbright scholar, Alandete earned master’s degrees in Journalism and International Relations from Spain and the United States, respectively. He has spoken at the European Parliament, the Aspen Institute, and the Atlantic Council, and received the Eisenhower Freedom of Expression Award for his work combating disinformation.
