David Alandete is the White House Correspondent for Diario ABC and Cope radio, reporting on U.S. politics for two of Spain’s leading news outlets. He also covers the White House for Telemadrid, Madrid’s public television.
He is the author of two books on disinformation: Fake News: la nueva arma de destrucción masiva and La trama rusa.
Alandete was Deputy Director at El País and Managing Editor at Adonde Media, where he led award-winning projects like the Duolingo podcasts (Webby 2022), Uribe Acorralado with Daniel Coronell, Después de Ayotzinapa, and Retrato Narrado with Jon Lee Anderson. He also edited 5 Preguntas, a podcast and TV series with María Elena Salinas.
At El País, Alandete played a key role in expanding the newspaper’s digital reach by 40% and in launching its English and Brazilian editions. He contributed to investigations on Russian interference in European elections and continues to monitor disinformation campaigns targeting Latin America and U.S. Hispanic audiences. He has interviewed global leaders and took part in the last Spanish-language interview with Bashar al-Assad before his fall, following several reporting trips on the Syrian refugee crisis across the Middle East.
A Fulbright scholar, Alandete earned master’s degrees in Journalism and International Relations from Spain and the United States, respectively. He has spoken at the European Parliament, the Aspen Institute, and the Atlantic Council, and received the Eisenhower Freedom of Expression Award for his work combating disinformation.
